Detection of email accounts

Where are email accounts (in Outlook Express, Outlook etc.) actually stored on a computer? In the registry or in a file?

If a program such as the configuration utility for an anti-spam program 'detects' email accounts, where is it looking? What could the problem be if accounts are not detected?

Do accounts that were previously deleted from the email program actually still exist on the computer?

In the registry :
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager\Accounts\00000001

(or 0000002 or 00000003 etc.)

As for problems or deleted accounts, I'l leave that to someone else. I think that once deleted, they're gone unless you do a system restore which may restore a backed up version of the registry.

All very technical
