Had this phone for about six years, and tend to use it fairly rarely - really only for 'emergencies'.
It takes absolute ages to power up and loses the charge very quickly.
Do you think it has had its day??

If the battery is getting to be u/s then you are risking nothing except the cost of the new battery.
go to Ebay buy a battery follow instructions here

simple saving you pounds!!
Ebay and genuine in the same sentence....
exactly ummmm my thought for not adding that!
As said Apple employees have a recommendation scheme. If you said you are thinking about getting a new phone your friend puts your name into the system and if you buy one he collects a bonus.
grrr fault!
Apple do not actually make batteries they just buy them in. So as long as you buy from the same supplier it is a 'genuine' battery.
Eddie...stop talking rubbish. My mates don't try and flog me things to get a bonus.
lol I can just see my mate adding me to a list to get a bonus!! That would be like me adding all my mates to an investigation into their taxes!!
It's bordering on the ridiculous. Eddie...you know nothing about Apple employees...
good grief jenny has asked help about her phone thats all ...she didnt ask for eddie to be slagged off or sarcastic remarks ..jeez unbelievable now i understand how sqad feels!!
As an aside....Braun also say that their rechargeable toothbrushes (sold as Oral-B) "can't" have their batteries replaced for several (good?) reasons. However, the batteries CAN be replaced giving the items several more years use...
I recently changed a 4s battery, no special tools, a bit fiddly but easily done in a few minutes, you would need to pretty clumsy to break one.
Just a tip for all you battery changers. I use a thin guitar plectrum when I need to split down a lap top or phone to work on them. It doesn't damage the plastic case or lugs and is easy to get a bit of leverage or twist to pop the case or cover.
That'll save a few broken fingernails, Togo. Thanks for the tip. :-)

Gosh.
Opened a bit of a can of worms there.
Difficult to choose a best answer.
I think I'll wait till it finally dies, and then try and get the battery replaced.
Thanks everyone for your input.
hope you get sorted Jenny
.. you will wait till, it finally dies.. It wont be a great deal of use in an emergency if you happen to have one, .. that is what you say you have the phone for ?
its an old phone, but if you want to keep it, then change the battery
i have changed many phone batteries inc iphone ones with no ill effect what so ever, do it yourself its not difficult, get one off fleabay for a £5
better still if its a phone you rarely use it might be worth looking at a basic mobile phone, a bit like the old Nokia's and Motorola's, they are cheap and the batteries last quite a while between charges.
