Hi, does anybody know what the rates of pay are like for the skilled engineering trade in canada compared to here in the UK - i.e maintenance engineering, mechanical fitting, welding, pipe fitting (basically multi skilled) and is there much call at the moment in the industry ?
Many thanks in advance

It will also depend where you want to work. If you're prepared to take on cold northern Alberta and the oil sands projects there - loads of work apparently because of the high process of oil making it economic to build up production - there's more oil there locked in the sands than in the whole of Saudi Arabia - then I imagine the money is excellent. There'll probably always be work in the big cities, but more competition and higher costs.
Alberta's also the place to be for the large gas pipelines being built to the US.
Good luck. I lived in Alberta (Edmonton) for two years and loved it. Have you checked that you get enough points on the Canadian immigration system? You can take a free test online at the Embassy's website; you'll probably be OK with a trade.
