Touch Screen

I'm sure it's been asked a thousand times before but I'll ask anyway as I don't know. How does a modern touchscreen appliance (phone, I-pad etc) work? Is the screen heat sensitive, I'm sure it can't be pressure, Any simple explanations please?

A capacitor is a device widely used in electronics that holds a charge or potential between two terminals or fixed points. It can add this stored charge or potential to a circuit or take a potential from a supply or circuit and store it for later use. All this happens at a phenomenally fast rate in reality and has to be mentally slowed down to understand it. I have now had a chance to find a pretty good description of a capacitor and distinctly thinking it was witchcraft when being taught electronics in the late 60s.
