I am still operating with Windows7 on my PC and my wife also uses W 7 on her laptop. It is Not my wish to change to W 10 because it keeps having problems after problems. I have a Dell Inspiron in case anyone needs that info...
Who suggested it ? Did they explain why they thought that was so ?

in a manner of speaking, he isn't a computer expert and no one in PC world if that is what, who you mean, he said that he has upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 and its a better security package. Not sure how else to put this.
Hmmm.. Pretty much all Windows systems have vulnerabilities. As do Macs and Linux.

One might question the use of Kaspersky:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42202191

Probably the quickest and easiest option to improve security is to replace Kaspersky

You may also be aware that some Intel processors have their own vulnerabilities.

https://techcrunch.com/2018/01/03/a-major-kernel-vulnerability-is-going-to-slow-down-all-intel-processors-2/

We have to assume that most home computers are vulnerable to determined attackers.

The key to defence is putting in effective precautions over the top of the Windows operating system. I think there is already quite a lot of advice on here and Martin MoneySaver:

Windows 10 is a pain in the aris. Only last night I was confronted with a black screen while it attempted, unsuccessfully, to download updates.

so no real need to change from windows 7, i wouldn't know unless i take it to PC world how to do it, that is to upgrade to windows 10.

jack
i have had that as well, with windows 7.

have just renewed my kaspersky for another year?
One would hope newer versions avoided pitfalls of older ones, but while older ones are still being supported the expectation is that past security drop-offs get patched anyway.

(In addition, Kaspersky has a good reputation.)
So far as I am aware, Win 10introduced more secure systems and closed some known security breaches.

See here for the Microsoft perspective:
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/windows-10-heres-why-it-beats-windows-7-on-security-says-microsoft/

However, in exchange for being free. Win 10 does not give you any choice about updates and additions. Inevitably, some of these will have security holes that will need to be patched before they are no longer a concern.

As with many things, the best option is to learn a bit about vulnerabilities and research the best defences.

Fortunately, there are many online resources for that.

Moneysavingexpert is one; others such as TechRepublic tend to be a bit geeky and less user-friendly.

The link above is a good starting point. ( https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/free-anti-virus-software ) Otherwise there are many here who can offer their own advice and experience
Until recently (December 2017) you could upgrade to Windows 10 for free from Windows 7 but Microsoft stopped that so now if you want to upgrade you have to pay. Windows 7 is supported till 2020 so it may be best to wait till then and buy a new PC in 2020.

All systems can be hacked but are less like to suffer such if one is careful of Internet sites visited. Also hackers are more interested in the latest operating systems. So I say...."Stick with Windows 7".

Hi emmie.....Thanks for having awarded me 'Best Answer'.

You stay with Windows 7 and if you have any problems then post in AB where there are sufficient Techies to help with issues.
In fact there are quite a number of folk who are still on W 7.

Hans.
i have never had any problems with 10 whatsoever including updates must depend how your own comp is set up?

I run Windows 10 on both tablet and pc and have had no problems whatsoever. I think that the few that had problems are more vocal than the rest.
If you update to Windows 10 there MIGHT be some of your programs which won't work or you will need to but an update for. There might also be a problem with any attatched hardware, if it's old, as there might not be drivers available for it. I lost a printer moving from Windows XP to Vista and a friend lost a video editing program moving from Windows 7 to 10 - he updated to the latest release of the program and found that it had changed and he didn't like it. Don't upgrade unless you have to.
Did it hacked? If not, let the guy away. haha.

Well, I am also asked myself this problem before I upgrade my system to Windows 10. Now, I am using the Windows 10 over 2 years. And I use the Windows Defender as the antivirus program. It runs well. It is my experience. I think you may want to ask should I upgrade to Windows 10 like other people asks. All of the answers will told you the Windows 10 advantages and disadvantages.
