I have just finished an 'on-line' Live Assistance Internet Chat with BT and had confirmed that I did receive, this afternoon, a Scam Telephone call from No. 01883216069. Also that BT use 0800 numbers if telephoning customers.
I was suspicious when I asked the Indian sounding chappie if he could prove that he was speaking on behalf of BT., because he immediately disconnected the call.
BT intend to deal further with the matter to prevent further calls from the number concerned.
I haven't a clue as to the reason for the call but it was obviously a scam. The chap introduced himself as BT and, before he said anything further, I asked him what proof could he give me that the call was genuinely from BT. No further discussion took place because he cut off the connection.
If your landline is with BT you can just register with BT Protect, they automatically black list a lot of numbers, you can add any numbers you receive calls from to the list and calls that come through as 'unavailable'. We have been signed up about 6 months now and do not get any calls at all, they tapered off pretty quickly.
@ubasses......Is there any charge for the service or does it require a certain type of telephone. It could be that I need BT Protect, because, whilst I have never had many Scam Calls, at about 09.30 this morning I had another one from an Asian Lady who announced that she was from BT and wished to speak to me about a fault on my Router. She disconnected the call when I said " I think a colleague of yours telephoned me yesterday on this matter".
The telephone number in this instance was...01859153846
Invest in a BT 8600. You can block any number at the press of a button. I have blocked all Unavailable and International calls. I let Withheld calls through as some are genuine. There are other options too: you can make the caller announce his name before the phone rings or divert all calls to the answerphone. Currently they are £25 from Amazon. which is a lot less than I paid for mine.
