Am I In The Stone Age ?

I was told yesterday that I am in the Stone Age because I use Windows 7.

Having recently managed to get my equally elderly wife to desist from trying to open apps by pointing the mouse at the screen I am reluctant to expose her to the trauma of having to get to grips with Windows 10.

I am comfortable with my Windows 7 Professional and it does everything I want in fine style, so is the accusation fair ?

As Win 10 is not yet 3 years old that hardly makes you a dinosaur and I retort that the Win 10 lovers are sheep. Most people who have used both would say Win 10 is a pain the ***.
I've gone back to Windows 7 after getting very annoyed by W10. If you're happy with 7 carry on with it. It doesn't mean you're in the Stone Age. You're just using what you like. Carry on with it.
My laptop is on W7 and I love it. My husband has W10 and it's a nightmare. Stick with the stoneage!
The people who tell you that you are in the Stone Age are the ideal Windows customers who will keep shelling out for the latest 'thing' Someone once told me that if you buy anything from Apple, it's like buying a book and then paying for it chapter by chapter. That's how they make their money.
I am in the stone age too. I have no problem with windows 7, OH is always having trouble with Windows 10.
No. Bronze Age maybe ;-)

Generally speaking it's wise to stay close to latest for support issues etc.. But no desperate reason to move from 7 yet if you don't wish to.
10's fine once you sort out the privacy settings etc.. Takes a bit of digging to stop auto-updates and reboots though. But after that it's not a massive problem getting used to it.
Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13, 2015, but extended support won't end until January 14, 2020. This applies as long as you have Service Pack 1 installed. All this means that Win 7 becomes increasingly insecure. You may also find that it will not run newer programs or portray some pages inaccurately.
Of course not! I am still using W7. Great isn't it?!?
I wasn't aware that you could stop automatic updates. I would be very interested to know how to do it.
I like it Sharon, I will keep it for as long as I can.

I got W10 for free, have had updates for free, and no issues with it whatsoever, so have not 'shelled out' for anything
^ So you didn't shell out for XP, Vista, etc?

If it was on the Lappy when I bought it then I guess I shelled out for it, but I have never needed to add anything.
Well jack, one feels one's way to it over many attempts and finally are unsure what worked. Setting it to a metered connection was part of it. There were other setting changes too. Couldn't say what the exact process is.

I don't think you are stuck in the past too much, until a month or so ago I was still on Windows XP.

Suddenly my Daughter showed up with a new machine W10 installed and set me up.

I was nervous but it has been plain sailing.
windows 10 was i think, really made for tablets..then ms realised their error, and tried to correct it, i think its a platform for averts ms products..very buggy and convoluted, i have tried them all and win 7
just works..simple does what i want and how i want, and not menus within menus, ill stick with it till they drop support in 2020.
I'm on Win 7 Pro and doing okay. The PC has been misbehaving a bit recently but I suspect that's either the computer's fault or the browser's.
Jackdaw,

It was Buenchico who told me how to stop W10 updates. If he is around, he may instruct again.
