Gmail And Hotmail

I use hotmail on my laptop at home. I bought a Nokia smartphone which has gmail installed. This doesn't always seem to be available and I would prefer hotmail on my phone too. Is this possible and would it be any better? I want to be able to pick up and send emails easily on my phone. Also how do I instal apps on the smartphone? I only want the phone for basics, and have pay as you go, and don't use or want data roaming etc.

To find and install an app, go to Google Play on your phone and search for what you want. Then simply tap the 'Install' button.
