Any advice on lobbying for Broadband?

We live a mile and a half from a Broadband enabled exchange, but because BT in their wisdom choose to route their wiring half way round the countryside before bringing it to us, they've told us they won't check us for Broadband availability. The wire travels approx 8 miles before it gets to us at the moment. We are currently receiving home highway but have been told that if we 'really' want to be rechecked for Broadband we will have to have that removed, and once removed it can't be put back. All this at our expense to add insult to injury. What I Would like to know is, does anyone know of an organisation who could help us push BT into some form of action. There are 4 groups of people in the enclave I live in, all of whom work from home, and all of whom need to send large files by email. We are all desperate for a faster connection. We were checked some while ago, but I know that limits are being extended all the time, so I'm not sure why BT are refusing to do anything for us. We have obviously considered talking to our MP and approaching Offcom (or whatever the BT ombudsman is currently called), can anyone else suggest anything that might help. Very many thanks to you all.
