When the next generation of phones comes through, with tv reception enabled, will you need a tv licence to own one?

This has to be a 'Yes-&-No' answer.

YES: If you own any device equipped for TV reception (including a mobile phone) you definitely require a licence.... BUT.....

NO: You won't need to get a licence specifically for your phone. Your home TV licence also covers the use of battery-powered portable TV sets (which obviously includes TV sets built into mobile phones) away from home.

wonder when someone sells u a tv enabled phone whether they will start wanting your details to send to the licence people? just like they do when u buy a tv these days?
That's a good point from Twiglet. The obligation upon a supplier to collect address details from a purchaser relates to all types of products capable of receiving TV (e.g. TV tuner cards for a PC) so it would seem logical that mobile phones should be included as well.
