Headphones

Not sure exactly what I'm looking for but I believe you can buy headphones to wear while listening to the TV. I'm a bit hard of hearing and know my TV is far too loud for others. I dislike sub-titles but was told there were headphones I could wear. Anyone use these? What would I be looking for on-line?

I believe that earphones make it impossible for others to hear.

I always make sure that the tvs I buy don't automatically mute the sound when I plug a headphone jack in - all my tvs are Panasonic and I use rechargable wireless headphones which have the base station/charger plugged in to the headphone jack. Works very well for me, the headphones and tv speakers work independently.
If your tv mutes the tv speaker you can buy other listening devices that will work. Plug some headphones in to your tv now and check

My experience maggie, is that almost the only TV that will work for you is the Panasonic, which has a clever system that allows headphones AND ordinary sound for your family.
Donny's link does take you to a 'deaf aid' place which says that NO TV works this way - this is wrong. But their alternatives are a bit cumbersome, requiring you to plug something into a scart socket on the TV, which sends sound to your separate headphones.
Probably simpler to buy a Panasonic for a few hundred quid - I'm sure you're due a new set(!)
Buenchico will be along later (hopefully) to tell us an easy/cheap way round the problem.
We got rid of our Panasonic and bought a Samsung, which doesn't have the separate headphone facility - our solution was to install a sound system so that we have speakers much nearer to our ears - saves having to turn the TV right up.
It IS a problem, particularly if you care for your neighbours and/or family.
