Monitor No Signal

I wonder if anyone can help, my desktop has suddenly started saying no signal on the monitor.
I’ve tried a different hdmi lead.
The computer is a advent
Model centurion CPD 1303

Anyone have any ideas

Have you tried turning it off and turning it on again? (The computer, that is). Yes, I know that sounds facetious but it's amazing how often it works!

Has the monitor got an alternative input? If so, there might be a button (or a setting within an on-screen menu) which switches between different signal sources. For example, if the monitor is expecting a signal from a VGA connector, but you're using an HDMI one, it's going to show 'No signal'.

Your 1913 post wasn't there when I started typing. (No, I'm not that slow a typist. I got distracted by something else for a while). If your computer isn't doing what it normally does at start up then I've got a nasty suspicion that it might be destined for the great PC shop in the sky.

Is the fan running normally when you turn it on? Are any lights on the case, which might show that the hard drive is working, showing as usual?

Have you tried another PC with the monitor, and/or another monitor with the PC ?

No beep on start up looks key. Forget the monitor and think tower. I would guess, without getting hands on, a power supply fault in the desktop PSU. Without being unkind Webbo, does it need a damn good dust and detritus clean up. Particularly in the PSU grill and fan area. That is where I would be starting. (Been there)

Just remembered an old trick Webbo. Pull the mains lead out of the back of the tower.( not just switch off at wall socket) Now hold down the On/Off button on the tower for a while.(say 30 secs to a minute) Then plug in and try again.

Thanks for All the answers so far, things I have tried.

Turning it off and on again.

Turning it off, unplugging the power lead and holding down the start/on button down for 60secs

Different hdmi lead

As I said no beep when I turn it on.

Howdo i tell chris ?,it sounds like the fans are running but i have no picture.

If you know where the hard drive is located you can hear the armature move and the disc spin if you concentrate. Tough ask if you do not know the tower layout. I am just about to eat, but afterwards will have a look if the details you gave ref. the tower throw up the layout and ;location of the drive. ( usually at the front with behind air intake with a fan behind it)

Most desktop computers have a light on the case which flashes when the hard drive is being accessed.

Just had a quick look Webbo and as far as I can see the hard drive is going to be located, as I said, at the front near the top. There is no fan at the front, it appears to be on the top. The hard drive is located under the sloping front edge where it may say E Sata and where headphones can be plugged in. The sound of a hard drive armature is very distinct and you should be able to hear it immediately after pressing the on/off switch. You could listen with your stethoscope. (^_*)

Just took the panel off, both fans are running fast which is normal on start up and then they slow down but they wont slow down and there is no beep, the hd light is not on.

Well Webbo, seeing as how the side panel is off, I would give the insides a good vacuuming(use a little dry paint brush) then unplug and plug back in any easy to access sockets, including the graphics card. If you are able you could slide out and unplug the hard drive and have a look at he little pcb that is mounted on it.(where the two plugs are located) Look for and obvious flashover dark marks around the pins of the chips that are on it. Do not drop or break any seals on the hard drive. Another thing that once got me out of a hole was removing the pcb from the drive(little phillips screws usually) and cleaning the contacts between the pcb and the case of the hard drive.

Just to reassure you Webbo there is nothing that is going to give you a lethal electric shock in there unless you get into the covered power supply module and get contact with the mains supply. But moving fan blades are a danger.

Thanks for that togo, I did unplug and replug the hard drive (when off) and checked for any loose connections, Ill unplug and remove later this week, i do give a regular dedusting with one of those cans of air, a small dry paint brush and a vacuum so ill have a look later this week.
