I recently downloaded Avast free anti virus, and did a scan. it looks like if i want any viruses removed i have to pay. i was given a choice of payment, including the free option, but a credit card was asked for. Is this ok?
I have the same, piggy, and yes, they do ask for Credit Card payments for the Premium AV. Usually they offer it for a greatly reduced rate (Up to 70% off, so you'd get coverage for one year for about £14.99), but then it goes up to about £49.99 (I think[I).
I also [I]think] you can pay in monthly instalments, rather than one lump sum, but I'd check that.
As far as I know the free version doesn't require any card details/payment. My woman's PC has it and we were never asked. Did you download the right version from the right site ? Or can you skip card detail request pages ?
no need to wait, paul is correct. The free version is fine, but it does provide popups from time to time promising to clean my machine if I pay them. I just click on "no thanks", the free version provides adequate security - just remember to run it every week or so, it's not on permanently.
...and if you give anyone a credit card number, chances are you will be charged for something at some time in the future. Avast free is simply that....free.
I've never being asked for payments but as mentioned do have the occasional pop-up... suggesting premium if I wanted PC to be speeded up etc... The orange splat is always running and gets animated usually when entering a different site to the last.
Avast does rate sites - this one hasn't got a rating - so I stand corrected, it's on, and it might prevent me from entering dodgy sites, though it never has. But it still wants me to do a scan.
I use Avast free version. Occasionally there will be a pop up asking if I want to upgrade but for all the use I have on my PC, it isn't worth it. It maybe useful to people with web based businesses, but for my limited use it wouldn't be worth it.
This is weird, avast told to turn off my pc, did this, it came back on. Nothing happened. Went back to downloads. Clicked it again to be told i have to turn off my pc again
