Free Avast Issues

I recently downloaded Avast free anti virus, and did a scan. it looks like if i want any viruses removed i have to pay. i was given a choice of payment, including the free option, but a credit card was asked for. Is this ok?

Piggy I think that you would be as well uninstalling all the Avast programmes that are present on the machine, then if you want it do a new install of the free version from the link provided by Paul@10:36 Fri.

Did you uninstall the Avast programmes already there, and re boot? If not the new install is just clocking your previous "details".

The Best Buy "free" anti-virus software was Avast and AVG....now virtually the same thing, of course.

all reports that i have read say that windows 10 defender is now just as good as any free software, i certainly haven't had a problem with defender

Just a little caveat Piggy. I also have Trusteer endpoint installed. It works in harmony with Defender and is an extra layer for online banking and the like. I had to install it when I started doing our banking online. The Bank likes it and without it I feared that they may wriggle out of any responsibility if I did not utilise it. It is only in operation during payments and transfers. No Pop ups. No inducements to upgrade. Icon is tucked away in the "hidden icons" field behind the ^ in the bottom toolbar. I can access the dashboard for it by just expanding the field and clicking the little green Trusteer Rapport icon. Unlike all the other third party security programmes it will run in tandem with Defender......important.

Fair enough then. I will keep a weather eye on that for myself and "she who must be obeyed". Both our banks, (two banks four accounts) did suggest Trusteer when I set up the online facilities and have not, as yet, changed tack. I have an HP Pavilion lappie, Microsoft Surface Pro, and a desktop, all running it with Defender. Fingers crossed, so far not a bother.
