The Diane Abbott Thread.
I'm too late to join the thread below following its closure due to AOG and RR getting into a (pathetic) spat, so I thought I'd add my two penn'orth by opening a new thread.
I cannot stand Abbott with an all encompassing passion that borders on irrationality. I hate the fact she felt her child was too good for the schools that she stated her constituents should support, I can't stand the fact that she is the very definition of tokenism given she's been promoted way beyond her limited abilities and intelligence, and I am scared witless that potentially she could be in charge of the nations security.
I hate this woman.
But....she was having a harmless drink on a train. She wasn't bothering anybody, she wasn't drunk and causing a problem, so I really can't see why there is such a brouhaha (love that word). She should be left alone.
Hopefully this thread will stay open without people spoiling it.

there'd be some very different reactions had it been Farage not from me there wouldn't. Crowds of drunken yobs may be a problem but a politician with a mojito I couldn't care less, whether's it's Abbott or Tommy Robinson.

Diane Abbott - a prime example of the Peter Principle in practice:

I'm sick of all news from any channels and papers that are spewing out feeds on reversing Brexit i think if we don't open the feeds from the guardian Google will stop showing them on your tablet, android or smartphone as they usually only show you what you are interested in fingers crossed
Diane Abbott is one of the reasons why i will know longer vote labour i think she is an idiot how the hell is she even an MP i will never know and answer to your question it is illegal to drink in most public places and she should know better she helps make the laws exactly what i mean about the mentality of her and to think she wants to be leader of the Labour party and thinks she is popular enough to be voted in as prime minister one day the woman isnt living in the real world

an entirely insignificant story; who cares if she drinks a mojito on a train? If London Transport, or whoever it was, want to prosecute her, they can go ahead, but I imagine they'd think it a waste of time or money.
I'd say exactly the same if it was a Tory. (Except maybe William Hague after his 14th lager.)

>>> it is illegal to drink in most public places
No it isn't!
In general it's perfectly legal to consume alcohol on the street, in parks or on beaches, etc. Even when there's a 'controlled space' order in place (which only applies to a very small number of places) the consumption of alcohol itself isn't illegal. (It only becomes an offence if you continue drinking alcohol in such an area after a police officer has required you to stop. So, for example, the police can insist that a group of drunken yobs in a 'controlled space' cease drinking their cans of strong lager, while at the same time permitting a nearby group of quiet picnickers to continue imbibing wine with their food).
It's also perfectly legal to consume alcohol on almost all National Rail trains (except where there's a banning order in place on specific services, such as those used by large groups of football fans). You can buy booze on many intercity services and M&S provide plastic cups in their 'Simply Food' food branches at railways stations specifically so that their customers can drink their wine (or whatever) onboard trains.
London Overground services are a little odd in that they're part of the National Rail network but run by Transport for London (who then outsource their operation to Arriva). So while passengers can normally drink alcohol on services operated by Arriva, and on almost all other National Rail services, the consumption of alcohol is prohibited within a small geographical area due to TfL's involvement. It's not hard to see how DA could have become confused!

She can’t be that stupid, with a history degree from Cambridge, and she must have passed the AT HEO(D) Civil Service exams which are pretty demanding.
Risen from humble beginnings to be the first black MP I think is worth something at least.
Anyway I have a Brexit supporting friend who’s an ex London cop and he’s a fan of Diane Abbott so if she’s good enough for him :-)
If she was ever cut any slack in her previous doings she certainly doesn’t seem to be now but whatever you think of her, and people are entitled to their opinions, I share DeskDiary’s sentiments.
