My current tv ‘died’ last night, and when the tv man came to look at it he said it wasn’t repairable. I trust his knowledge so must now choose another one. I’ve been looking at some and they say they have TV plus but don’t mention Freeview. I’m used to Freeview so don’t want to get something which doesn’t do what I want it to do. Advice appreciated.
Surely most current TVs will have Freeview? Sony are highly rated for picture/sound quality. I have a Samsung which I like. LGs have some cute features but my mate has one that has "burnt" an unwanted image shadow on the screen. Just too much choice !!!
First thing...decide what size screen you want and go from there.
Actually, the two brands that make the best TVs are LG and Samsung. Sony and Panasonic come next but avoid unknown cheapos from supermarkets etc.
You'll be surprised at the features available on even modestly priced sets...my new LG (recommended strongly by Which?) has Bluetooth, voice-control, Alexa, "magic" remote control with on-screen pointer which makes catch-up a doddle.
If your budget allows it get a Panasonic. My last 2 have been, and I have been delighted with them. My old one is still working for my son and is 10 years old. He even uses it as a pc monitor as well as a tv.
Whatever you do, make sure the new TV is 'Full HD', not just 'HD ready' - big difference in picture quality. All have Freeview now, but the spec will confirm this.
Have a look at Currys website and you can choose by process of elimination by clicking on the features you want. I recently wanted a TV for my bedroom so I clicked onto under 42". I also wanted a smart TV and an inbuilt DVD player and found one that suited my requirements. Then you can shop around to find the best price.
I rang our local Stuart Westmorland shop at 5.15 last night and they are bringing me a Panasonic 40” this afternoon! It’s got all the bells and whistles plus a free 5 year guarantee, so hopefully I will be sorted. Thanks for all your help.
^^actually, Richer Sounds includes a free 6 year warranty and guarantees lowest price....also, fantastic, clued-up staff. I can't see why anybody would even consider Currys.
Never had a problem with Currys but then I do know exactly what I want when I go there as I always find what I want first on the internet, and if they are cheaper than other shops, I go there. Staff are always pleasant and they always carry my purchase to the car.
