I have a Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 - will it charge up on one of those wireless chargers where you just lay it on?

I can't see any reference to Qi (wireless) charging among the specs for your phone

So I assume that the answer to your question has to be 'No'.

no i have the same phone and it does not support wireless charging
