Whenever I phone a friend of mine on his landline phone, if he doesn't answer it within 30secs, it cuts off. Anyone know why it does this please?

If it is set to disconnect after 30secs, it isn't something he has done and he wouldn't know how to stop it from doing that. I know you can set your answer machine to kick in after so many rings, but I didn't think it would be possible to do this with a phone.
Why wouldn't it be possible to extend the ring time before voice mail cuts in, or before the caller gets disconnected ?
Phones are often capable of a whole lot more than most people will ever know. They can be packed with features that are never used by an owner. You would need the make and the model of the phone before you would know if the feature is available.

It may depend on his landline supplier. My TalkTalk phone will only ring 7 times before going to the TalkTalk answerphone. I queried this with TalkTalk, suggesting that the time was often insufficient to allow me to answer it, requesting that the time be increased, to be informed that this was their standard time interval allowed and could not be changed.
