Question Author
i am not especially tech savvy, so think i must be at fault somehow.
Question Author
also the icon for mail doesn't always show up when there is new mail as it does on my mobile
are you using google chrome ?
Question Author
nope, Microsoft Edge.
Question Author
if i switch to browsing with firefox, i can see all the e mails in the folders, of which there are many....
one of the techky experts will be along soon
but I find that g-mail syncs better with google chrome
good luck
Question Author
i want to continue with Microsoft Edge, but this synch business is driving me up the wall...
I see you access it through an "icon" on your laptop. Does that mean it's through an app, or via the web. If the former, have you tried accessing it through the web?
Question Author
if i type in gmail up top of screen, all my emails, all folders appear.
is that what you mean...
yes, so just access it via the web then, problem solved
Question Author
but it means i can't use the icon which is a lot quicker than putting in gmail at top of the screen, there must be a problem with sync...
just make it into a favourite then, then you only have to click on the favourite.
Question Author
ok
or even better, if that's too hard, just make a desktop shortcut to it (copy the web address, then go to your desktop, right click and go to "new" then choose shortcut and paste the web address in the location)
then you can just press the desktop shortcut and it'll take you to the web version where all your folders await. Clearly there is some sort of interface problem with the app, (not you) so stop using it to access your gmail
Question Author
i can do that, but this bottom of the page mail icon you just click and there is the gmail, only not all of it. bonkers....
I am struggling to see what is different about clicking on an icon on the bottom, or on the desktop. But if you really want it on the bottom, open gmail, go the the three dots top right in edge and select "pin this page to the taskbar"
when you press the icon on the task bar, does it open a webpage in edge? if so you may just have to then "refresh" (the circular arrow) to get all folder to appear?
I told you previously to access GMail through your browser (Edge) and not the Windows icon. That is the cause of all your problems.

Barry i have just sat with a techie and he was unable to
get the two to sync, i have tried various methods and will look at mail
in gmail only. I can get all my emails on here, only not by pressing
the little app icon at the bottom of the screen. that doesn't show up all my folders, with the respective emails in them. sorry to say
somehow he will have to come back and try again, but he and i
run out of time.
