Bt Phone Woes
5 Answers
I have a BT XD5500 cordless phone with handsets linked to a base station, all in the familiar way. Although, so far as I can tell, everything works correctly, the base has taken to beeping pretty much continuously. This is the Nth BT phone I have bought, both corded and cordless, all previous of which have abruptly become useless - you would think I would learn that BT's instruments are junk. I have another really cheap foreign corded phone (Binatone) which has been in use for well over two decades, maybe three, and saves the day every time the BT rubbish drops dead.
Does anyone per chance know if there is anything I can do to stop this beeping - there is no advice offered about this in the manual ?

However it might actually be worth trying the reset procedure with the existing base before buying a new one. (You've almost certainly got nothing to lose by doing so anyway):
"A beeping BT Freelance XD550 base means the base is faulty and you need to buy a replacement.
You can buy a replacement BT Freelance XD5500 base from sellers on eBay for £3.99 for the base and £2.99 postage & packing..

Thank you Chris, impressive search/find. What I have discovered is that pressing the Find button silences the beeping, but no double beep arrives. Releasing the button brings back the continuous beeping - I have jammed the button down, no double beep but: Peace ! Everything else still works, for now. All of this started today with intermittent bouts of beeping and then eventually continuous. Incidentally your link is for a second handset charger point, not a base station - base stations are available for around £15 upwards. Thanks again.
