Very low, increases by turning volume up, can only really hear it when no sounds going through, but it’s subliminally annoying.

Would it be cable, or cable run, or earth somewhere?

If you are ok with that disconnect the earth temporarily to see if that stops it.
You do not say waht sort of set up it is but back when I had hi fi separates, it was an earth loop which needed connecting or disconnecting. Usually the turntable.
As said, it is nearly always an earth loop, so suggest you follow first 2 respoders ideas. Also, make sure your connecting cables are pushed into their sockets fully, and check the earth connections to their 13amp plugs where an earth is used- the amp etc.
responders even!!

Thanks. It’s a Sony SRS mains-powered, so no earth.

I’ll try plugging it in away from the computer etc., and see if that makes a difference.
