It would seem that my browser, Internet Explorer 11, is out of date - or a similar phrase - and is not being accepted by various sites - or at least those I've visited, such as ASDA - so a change is probably nigh!...so what would anyone suggest?...Microsoft Edge or Firefox or...? I use Windows 10 OS...NB: the easier the better, as I'm the original techno-duffer! Ta Muchly and Take Care All.

spoilt for choice aren't you? i'm happy with the new edge browser
ps if you're using win 10 you should already have edge
if you computer has had all the automatic updates you will have microsoft "edge" already on it , internet explorer is dead ...just look under M on your apps, edge is there
Question Author
Hi Derek and er A...- yes, Edge is on my pc, but I wondered if it was the best to use or the best out there...I'm thick and I've a screen reader to cope with too!...er A, I can't work out your "name" is it Welsh or...pardon me for asking!
I've had no problems with Firefox; but others may be okay if ABers recommend them.
it's an anagram of my surname in alphabetical order. As you already have Edge i'd give it a go before you start downloading other browsers. Knowing which is the best is down to personal preference

Question Author
Sorry Derek, I've typed in Microsoft edge or just edge in the apps list and the name appears, but when I hit enter, I am "told" it is Unavailable - and I've had all the updates previously...so I'm now going to googgle and see what I get under ms edge and maybe take it from there!
well you havent missed much hur hur hur
like chrome a log
google chrome and download

many fewer ads of - "ya gardda buy our software - and give us money and some of it may work or be needed"
I like Edge
If you have w10 running then Edge should already be loaded. It just needs pinning to your Task Bar and launching. Go to your apps list and see if it is in the list. If it is indeed there either drag the icon down to the task bar then click on it. If you cannot drag it down right click it and choose pin to task bar.(you may find that option in the pop up menu under "More".) When you get Edge running make sure that you have the new "beta" version.
Here is the microsoft Edge download site, if you cannot find it. If you already have it it will tell you so.

Many Thanks for all that togo, though I can't understand it!...but doesn't beta mean not the finished article, just a trial version?...unashamed duffer that I am.
No Woodelf. The new version was called beta when it was being trialled by some of us. They may have now dropped the "beta" tag seeing as the version is now available to all. The blue wave icon looks less one dimensional than the old Edge browser icon. Anyone who has kept their w10 upgrades up to date should have the new Edge browser in there somewhere.
Microsoft acknowledges that a lot of sites no longer respond to Internet Explorer 11 and by this time next year will have withdrawn all support for it.

As has been said by others in this thread, if your operating system is Windows 10, then Edge should be installed and available for use. However, as it appears you are unable to activate it, you had best do as indicated by Togo at 12.11 above ^^^.

You can have as many Browsers as you like. I have...Edge, SeaMonkey and my favourite one which is Firefox. Buenchico always recommended Firefox but he is know opting for Slimjet.

Hans.
^^^^^ now opting for Slimjet... not... know.

Many Thanks Hans and I did understand your typo, I'm not that thick..."really?" grins a wicked Lie-in King, "I thought it was your natural state!" he says as he glides along his merry way - anyway, back to the prob. Yes, I will look into togo's link again...done so once already, but it isn't written in plain English or - to me - understandable non-techno English...still, I'll keep on it and Thank You All - I'll even have a look at Slimjet, if Chris reckons it, then say no more!

Oh, I'm gettin' fed up with my stupidity!...anyone out there in AB land use a screen reader with Windows???
I don't, but,.... what is your problem concerning the screen reader Woodelf?
Thanks woodelf for having replied to my earlier posting. It certainly brought a smile to my chops. Now I am waiting to hear what you say to Togo about the Screen Reader. I know nothing about the use of such a device, except that it is an aid to folk who are visually impaired.

This thread could end up with my seeking advice from you because my wife has eyesight problems and is regularly attending Hospital for eye injections. Macular degeneration and Glaucoma.

Anyway let's get you sorted first.

Hans
The screen reader is an aid to visually impaired folk Hans and is a free tool. It can be activated in settings and one of the very useful features is a feature called "Narrater" that reads aloud everything that happens on your screen, including text, buttons, and menus. I was concerned that Woodelf had perhaps "lost" the feature..... which would make it very difficult to follow our advice regarding a browser upgrade, if that was the case.
