Morning All,

I’ve been getting silent calls from a ‘No Caller ID’ for around the past month. So, I contacted my network and made them aware of this each time it happened. To start off with, I wasn’t bothered by these calls but then i started to feel ‘harassed, alarmed and quite distressed’ by them and it had an impact on my daily life.

I reported it to the police and i authorised my network to send my incoming call data to the police.

I spoke to an officer last evening and they/ I have identified the person who has been doing it from the data sent over by the network.

On finding out who it was, I was quite surprised. I said to the officer can you call said person and give them a ‘stern’ talking too.

Now, the officer isn’t going to call said person until Monday but haven’t thought about it for the last few hours, I have changed my mind and want to press charges against this person.

If I do press charges, what is the likely outcome for said person for what they have done?

Thanks

Maximum 6 months in prison and /or a fine. That is the maximum punishment, likely outcome a fine and an order to stop.
As you do find this sort of call alarming and distressing I recommend you block 'caller id hidden' calls to your mobile and invest a few pounds in a landline phone that won't ring out unless the caller identifies himself (or herself) if the number is hidden or not one of your contacts. My phone is a BT 4600
Next time they call you could ring them back immediately afterwards "Did you just call? It came up with your number". It might make him think his number isn't being withheld.
And just to say that you don't get to 'press charges'.

Charging decisions are made by the Crown Prosecution Service if they receive a submission from the police.
So it's someone you know? I dont think you get to say whether you press charges or not. That's up to the police /cops. Frankly I'm amazed they told you who it was
bhg is quite a good one
deffo one that I wd do

are you sure you have the choice of pressing charges? I wd have thought talk as I do out of my fundament that they are planning just to give him a talking to

[that is all they did when co-workers ex sent the new one messages like " Die you botch!"]

it is obvious that I wd stick with the talking to

oh and when you found out - - anyone interesting like - my mother in laws grandson that I used to go playing rugby with?
For cops read cps
// Frankly I'm amazed they told you who it was//
he might have cued - well I think it is so and so
CPS and charging decisions - yeah I live in the C 19
knowing the origin of the calls doesn't prove the identity of the idiot making them?
eighteen months ago a woman smashed into the back of my parked car and wrote off both vehicles, the police were in attendance. The following day they phoned me and asked if I wanted to press charges, so at least they offer the choice of pressing charges.
Sometimes they do, vulcan, often they don't.
