Amazon Email Scam?

I do not use Amazon, if I ever did, which I can’t even remember, it was probably around ten years ago. And I don’t remember any password I may have had. I have had an email from account- [email protected] saying

Someone has attempted to sign into your account.
October 22 2020 10.50am Indo China Time
Device Google Chrome Windows Desktop
Near Ho Chi Min Vietnam

Could this be a scam please? I rarely use my laptop and threw out my ldesktop years ago. Smashed it up.... So no one else could retrieve information. I presume they want my credit card details.
I have had new credit cards recently so would this mean I am safe?

It could be a scam, it could be genuine. Why not log in to your Amazon account and see what information it has?

A genuine Amazon email will have used your name or the name you used if you ever did have an account or even just a "guest" delivery. I scam will in all probability just address you using your email address.

Wouldn't your account have been with "amazon.co.uk" and not ".com"/

The link provided in this email starts with “https://www.amazon.co.uk”. If you prefer, copy the following link and paste it into a browser to view.


Check the senders email address as well. If you haven't used Amazon in years any cards associated with it would have expired, so no purchases could be made, or details taken.

Another good point...all my Amazon emails finish .co.uk whether they have come from a tracking app, accounts, or marketing. I would report it as phishing and then activate the dormant Amazon account. You do not need to give any debit/credit card details for now just reset the password and check the contact details are up to date.

I have bought from Amazon.com in the past because it was cheaper. Those emails obviously come from .com

Thanks. It did say my name at the beginning of the email. No “Dear” just my name which appears on my email address. Chell7272 it seems to be the same as your email, with the logo and wording very similar. I haven’t tried to sign in to Amazon as I don’t remember my password ... but as I don’t have the same credit card anymore, as you say, I presume I am safe?? Yes I am in UK so presume account would have been with UK and not com.... it was from
[email protected].

Barry in the email header in blue it saysMits from [email protected]. However it doesn’t say as in chell7272’s answer “if this is you you can disregard this message”. Instead it says in blue to click on the link “Please approve or deny”. I didn’t click on this link .....

oh in terms of
chaning cards - will that do to block it?
yes ign effect - most times - the bank / company may say as they did to me - yeah foo some are carried across

but I have to change my card one or other about once a year
and it never has ( been carried across)

and yes i vote for scam

altho yes google regularly tell me when one of the family has logged on

It's a Scam. You did right to refrain from clicking the link.

Amazon will Not have your present Card's details, so no one can access your dormant account. So you will be safe doing nothing.

I had exactly the same email today, just delete it. Never ever click on any link you get by email.
