Can I play a DVD player directly through a computer monitor? or do I need to get a DVD/TV combi. I don't actually need the extra TV facility.

Are there are pros or cons?

Not with a straight cable, but you can use a convertor box.

This ebay item will do you, I use one myself for a second TV in a small room (it has a TV tuner in as well, but for a long time I didn't use it).
