Hi. A little note keeps popping up on my tv. Watch in HD. What does this mean? Does it make any difference? Does it cost anything? Many thanks for information

i ignore it because i can't see a difference between hd and not hd :-)
hd = high definition and it's your free choice whether you use it or not

Ok. Many thanks. Will ignore it as I have been doing.
It seems that your TV has an HD tuner as well as the normal tuner and when you tune to a normal station your set is reminding you that you could also watch it in HD. As a first approximation the channel numbers for HD stations are 100+usual number eg, BBC1 is Channel 1 in SD and 101 in HD and ITV is 3 or 103.
Whether HD is worth the bother depends on the size of your screen and how far away you sit. For most programmes the difference might not be obvious but when watching eg, tennis the lines might be clearer in HD.
HD High Definition is not on all TV's, But if you have it on yours, it's supposed to give you a better picture.
It doesn't cost anything to watch in HD, so click on it and see if you can get it and if it's a better picture.
I can see a big difference on my TV, I guess all eyes and all tvs aren't the same.
I see a vast difference on my tv. Press it and see if you do. Doesn't cost any extra. No point having an HD tv and not using it.
Bobbie if you are with Sky, yes there’s a charge for HD but as Baz said, there’s little or none difference
If you enjoy natural history programmes you should give it a try, I think you will see a difference on this type of programme
Many of the channels broadcast in hd are free eg bbc1 bbc2 itv1. Much better picture quality.
I too am one of the one's who can't see any difference !
Whether you notice a difference between standard and high definition depends on several things...including your eyesight and the quality of your set....if the set is a top quality one, you will notice a big difference.
What TV do you have, Shirley?
there is also as massive difference on my tv. to the extent that I believe they are deliberately broadcasting non hd in poor quality

The BBC News channel and Russia Today are only available in HD (channels 107 and 113 respectively) on Freeview.
BBC News Channel is 231 on Standard, 107 in HD. I don't know about Russia Today.
Also bear in mind that some regional BBC programmes are only in SD; South Today is one.
I think for true HD your system has to be HD throughout - aerial/sat disc/set-top box/tv. If any of those aren't HD you won't get HD.
PS. I remember watching the first broadcast of Corrie on a 9" black & white floor-standing TV. What we have now is a bit of an advance!
if you really cant see any difference between HD and SD then your tv is a cheap make or you need an optician
Bobbs, you have to pay for HD on Sky?
I'm on Freeview so I didn't know that as everything I watch is free.
