You’re invited to a party that for every reason you can think of, you really don’t want to go.

Do you….

Go anyway and just stay a short time

Ignore the invitation

Send apologies with an excuse about having something else on that night

Explain that you can’t think of anything worse!

Catch Covid the day before.
Send apologies with an excuse about having something else on that night
Agree with ellie.
Feign illness.
Send an acceptance but don't turn up - then think of an excuse to give if you're asked.
When people are organising a party they’re more than likely catering for a specific number of people so it’s not fair to just not turn up or to feign illness at the last moment. I would send a nice reply thanking them for the invitation and saying unfortunately I won’t be able to join you.
Yea, you're quite right naomi. [hanging head in shame]
Agree with Naomi
Send apologies...and breathe a sigh of relief.

I will reply and send my apologies but it annoys me that I have to think of a suitable excuse for something I simply don’t want to do!

Let me have a selection of your most creative excuses.
Why do you feel you need to make an excuse? Just say you won’t be able to go.
'My bats have to be moved to their new bat hotel and I need to hang around with them.'
Illness is best, it can’t be disputed.
If you claim you had a prior engagement it’s easy for that to be pored over i.e. someone asking where it was or ‘I saw such and such the other day and she said you were not at that other event’ etc.
It’s mostly a female thing, men don’t quiz each other about such stuff.
None of your options are suitable Maydup.
Don't go if you don't want to.
Don't ignore people.
Don't tell lies.
And above all, don't be rude!!!

Do exactly as suggested by Naomi24 "send a nice reply thanking them for the invitation and saying unfortunately I won’t be able to join you."
Just get a non acceptance card, all you have to do is sign it, no reason need be given.
I'd send a card, thank them for the invite but say you'd rather not attend. Who knows, you may be doing them a favour, maybe they were thinking, oh, sure we'll have to invite maydup and groan so, your 'I'd rather skip this invite, thank you', would be a welcome relief for them. I wouldn't create an excuse or illness though. The event will happen whether you attend or not
Feign illness?
"I'm sorry, but on the 23rd of next month I'll have caught Covid".
Good Idea.
“Send apologies”
