When I press the power button it makes a whirring noise for a minute and the Lenovo sign comes on the screen then all is normal but now when I press the button it whirs for a second then stops and nothing else happens. Help. I can’t cope with doing everything on my phone!!
Glad it's sorted. Sometimes it just fails to shut down correctly and it's brain gets befuddled. I strongly recommend blowing out the vents, a lot of dust will accumulate over the years regardless of how clean your house is. A clogged up fan can slow your machine down, cause it to overheat and suddenly shut down. I do it every six months or so
That’s too technical for me Barry lol!!!!! Charlie used to fix everything instantly when he was alive - even cleared my history and did scans!!! I can do those kind of things now but not much else. The laptop is about 5 - can’t actually put a time scale on it. He bought it for me one Christmas - God knows where he put the paperwork!!! Anyway, I can hear what are probably the fans whirring but it is still doing nothing
You can probably hear the fans working because they are clogged up. Do you smoke?
It is easy to clean the fans. Ideally you should open the case but it will make a big difference if you spray compressed air in to the vents. You can buy a can fairly cheaply, like this one Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
All my secrets given away Barry. Yes I do smoke but only in the carport so that doesn’t count lol!! I have got a can of compressed air which Charlie used for I know not what and the Laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad 310
Thank you Barry. For some reason it decided to come on about half an hour ago. There was a message saying it had been failing to start up properly on it and to restart which I did. It was very slow but I did a scan (don't know why but it seemed a good idea) and it said all ok. Working normally now but not sure what will happen when I turn it on again!!! Will let you know tomorrow morning. Thanks again

Good morning Barry. Fingers crossed, it is working this morning. When my son came round last night he got it to come on and I took the precaution of getting the hard drive out which Charlie used to back everything up and got Carl to put all the photos etc on that were taken after Charlie died so now I feel relieved that I won't lose anything if the computer fails completely. Thanks for all your help
