New Laptop
10 Answers
I need to buy a new laptop as my present one has a problem with a jumping cursor which makes writing emails a lengthy and laborious process.
Please can anyone suggest a reliable basic model. I use it only for ordering online and emails .
At present I have an h p pavilion 8.1 which Windows have asked me to update. - and an Epson wireless printer.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I wouldn't even consider a laptop without an SSD (solid state drive) these days. They make everything so much quicker than old-fashioned hard drives. (For your needs, a basic 128GB drive would be perfectly adequate). I'd also like to see 8GB of RAM in a laptop but 4GB is acceptable. Any i5 or i7 (or equivalent) processor should suffice. Although Windows 10 is fully functional, a transition to Windows 11 might be best at the present time.
As has been indicated above, I can highly recommend the refurbished products from AC Computer Warehouse. (I've bought plenty of stuff from there, both for my own use and on behalf of others). However I've also discovered an excellent eBay seller, which is where the laptop that I'm using now came from. So, if you're prepared to consider a second user machine, this is what I'd recommend from that firm:

For a new laptop, from Currys, this is what I'd go for at the moment:

Despite only having 4GB of RAM, this laptop from Argos (which, I suspect, is roughly the same model that GG bought from Currys) might also be worth considering:

When I experienced jumping cursor it turned out to be related to the insane idea of having a touch pad in front of the keyboard that was certain to keep getting inadvertently touched. May be worth you checking if that is the issue you have, and if it is, working out how to turn the touchpad off permanently.
