What kind of data? I recently did the same and I'm not a techie. I brought all my photos, docs, word and excel files etc over by using an external hard drive ie plugged hard drive into old laptop, copy and pasted everything I wanted and then plugged into new laptop and did the same. Worked for me. Also has the advantage that if my laptop goes berserk I have everything saved still on my hard drive.
Depends how much of it there is but I'd just copy all your personal files to a USB drive then copy it to the new machine.
You could back everything up to free cloud storage such as One Drive and Dropbox, then it is easy to access from any device and gives you reliable backup.
I do love memory sticks/flash drives/thumb drives though and external hard drives are cheap enough these days.
You could buy a data transfer cable for around £8, fast and easy
So plenty of easy ways to do it yourself.
Yes barry I use onedrive but I didn't want to complicate the issue for the OP.
I save everything on One Drive too, so accessible from any device. Either that or load it all into a memory stick and move it over that way.
Just as easy to upload to OneDrive as a memory stick
