AVI Files

I have downloaded an avi file but am unable to play it on windows media player. I have audio but no picture. I have been on the microsoft website to download codec but it is still saying "Error connecting to codec server " ??

Anybody any ideas ?

My personal preference for playing back .avi files is DivX player, obtainable at http://www.divx.com.

Hi Powell, I was having the same problem, and getting the same message as you. Tonight I decided to have a look at the microsoft download website and I found a link to Xvid. It's a free download and seems to have got me round the problem of the unknown codec thingy, and now they play ok.
