In the long forgotten days of my youth Radio 1 was the go to radio station for pop music and the latest hits and Radio 2 was for the fuddy duddies with the older often female singers, but these days Radio 2 seems to have tried to be very trendy with loads of britpop and rap type music and the so called DJs are just non stop talkers who only want to know what you had for dinner. The only decent music is played by Tony Blackburn and occasionally Johnny Walker and I now rarely listen to the radio. Do people really enjoy that sort of thing? Do you think oh I will turn the radio on to listen to the mithering of the likes of Zoe Ball, Sarah Cox, Jo Wiley, Rob Becket etc?

I still miss Desmond Carrington's Music Goes Road programne
Jo Wiley plays some good music. I enjoy OJ Borg, and wish had a permanent daytime show instead of the midnight slot

Radio 6 is now the place to be.
I miss Ken Bruce very much but can't be doing with the adverts on his new show.
They’r haemorrhaging listeners daily Lankeela
I've always been a Radio 4 listener.
Like Sandy-Roe I've always been a radio 4 listener (with the honourable exception of Terry Wogan), but R4 news seems to have turned into a 'magazine' style T.V. morning news programme. It often spends something like 10 mins. on the importance of a pop group I've never heard of - because one of them has died or done something; with accompanying loud blasts of unknown 'pop' music. So I don't have it on as much as I used to do.
Very few of the comedy shows are funny - apart from the long-running ones. :(
Internet radio for me...choose exactly the sort of stuff, era, country etc you want...much of it without chat, ads etc.
Without ads, ginge?
If you want just music, Radio Caroline is still going:

Jo Wiley doesn't come up for air she gabbles on nineteen to the dozen then does a sharp intake of breath before starting again.
Yes, barry...depending on the station, there are many without ads (I don't know how!) no chat, no news...nothing but music.
I wonder how they pay the royalties? Is it subscription?
barry - flower power radio. Only interruption from music is a news bulletin hourly. Lord knows how they finance it. Music from the 60s.
Thanks, bhg
Nothing to pay, barry...a choice of twenty-odd thousand stations from everywhere you can think of...all free.
I switched to Boom Radio after Ken Bruce left Radio 2.
I don't listen to the radio much but when I do it's Boom for me. There are a few ads but not many and good 'old' music that I can sing along to.
Really ? Wow. Lost their understanding of their core audience then. Or maybe those who like britpop and rap are the ones at fuddy duddy age now ?

I rarely tune into the four main BBC radio stations these days. Sometimes R3, rarely R4, almost never R1 & R2.
