My hubby has recently brought home a laptop so he can work at home and so we are having BT Broadband paid for. However, we are finding it really difficult to understand how to set it up on our home computer. we have a router cable, have bought a usb 10/100 ethernet adaptor. when my hubby tried to install it, it came up as something wanted configuring.also when we use out fone now downstairs there is a piercing whistle now and again and when i speak on it, its very loud and a bit like a microphone to speak into. i have only noticed this since hubby has been using broadband on his laptop. If you can please help, i am fed up with dial up as its so slowwwwwwwww!!!!!!

If you were using Broadband with only one computer, then I presume BT would have provided the hardware you need. I shouldn't think you need to buy any hardware.

However, I assume you want to use more than one computer, i.e. your husband's laptop and your existing home computer. If this is the case then you need an ADSL modem router which has probably not been supplied by BT. Have you got this and if so which make and model is it?

As for the noise on the phone line, this will be because you haven't plugged in a filter. BT should have supplied you with a least one filter. You need one for each phone. If you need more you can buy them from a computer shop.

HI bubbles, well what you need to do is tell us what the error message is that you get and when it happens.

Re the filter you should have it set up like this , that is each phone MUST have a filter fitted to its connection.
