At one time any mention of ad-blocking software was prohibited on this site because it was the ads that funded it.  At the moment though, people who're signed in don't see any ads.  So I can see no reason for the prohibition to continue to apply.

My own suggestion would be to use a web browser which automatically blocks all ads.  I use Slimjet:

Otherwise, uBlock Origin is currently rated as the best ad-blocker by PC Mag:

The duckduckgo browser adverts on TV claim that it blocks ads I think - I haven't tried it.

Catches - some sites ask you to disable the adblocker or confirm continue without doing so. Some sites won't let you access at all with an adblocker in place.

I'm using adblockplus at present - no problems.
