Just got new SIM card for phone..when I put it in though there is still message "insert SIM"..why is this?

Can't be connecting properly.

Try taking it out, rubbing the contacts on your sleeve, then reinserting it and trying again.

Tried that Old geezer.  when I look at new SIM card it says it's a bundle..does this make a difference?
