Mobile Phone Problem

I have changed provider for my SIM card and a strange thing is happening.

If I turn WiFi on, mobile broadband disconnects. It connects when there is no WiFi signal.

This never happened with my old SIM (Smarty) and Lebara is taking an age to get back to me, I filed a query two days ago.

Is this a new thing?  Calls and texts still get through when I am on WiFi only.

Checked the phone settings ?

I can understand using WiFi in preference but wouldn't have expected a disconnect.

I've checked everything, fiddled with settings, rebooted, turned mobile network on and off, turned wifi on and off, been fiddling for two days and am stuck.

>>> "If I turn WiFi on, mobile broadband disconnects. It connects when there is no WiFi signal".

Surely that's exactly what's meant to happen, isn't it? Your phone should always give preference to wi-fi over using a mobile phone signal, so that using the internet doesn't cut into your mobile data allowance.  It should only revert to connecting to a mobile phone mast when there's no wi-fi available (or, of course, when making calls or texts).  The phone should never be trying to connect to both systems at once, so I can't see where your problem is.

It never happened on any of my phones including this one before.

The notification bar always showed both the 4G and WiFi at home.

If you're able to make and receive calls (as well as sending and receiving texts), then, irrespective of whether '4G' is showing or not on your phone, you're clearly still connected to it anyway.

I can't see that you've got anything to worry about.

Thank you

That's normal with my phone.  It saves your 4G data.

Not that I've ever dug deep into it but while it is usual to have a priority use setting, I've never been aware if an actual disconnect to the mobile data. Indeed on occassion when a garbage hot spot is found (i.e. in supermarkets quite often) and it claims to be connected but admits it isn't connected to the internet after all, the mobile data is still shown as on but the duff WiFi prevents it being used.

Just be clear, this phone and all my other phones have always shown the mobile data notification with the signal bar and connectivity - 4G, 2G etc even when at home and my phone is connected to WiFi.  It has only used mobile data when not connected to WiFi.

With the different SIM card that notification is missing entirely until I disconnect from WiFi.  I was worried about it but now it has been explained that it is normal, I'm okay about it.

When you say mobile broadband do you mean you have a 4G/5G router?
