I've just bought a new printer, HP2810e. It says on the blurb that it will send ink when it gets a message from the printer?
My question is... I use very little so will it do it on a regular basis, or does it really read the ink levels and send just when it's getting low?
I don't want to end up with loads of ink I probably won't get used.
Thank you.

How does it think you are going to pay for it, or will it be free?

It's just as easy to keep an eye on the ink levels yourself then you can buy from wherever you like rather than paying HP.  You can usually get good deals elsewhere for ink cartridges.

Have you signed up for the printer ink service? I signed up for a small monthly fee (under £2 a month), and I get unlimited replacements automatically through the post, although there is a cap on the number of free pages per month-it means I get authentic HP inks without shelling out big one off costs every so often. Has pros and cons but it suits me.

It reads the ink levels.

Thank you all, I haven't installed it yet, so I may take the option of not using the service, I'll see what else I can find out.

My Epson printer trys to order ink for me, but I haven't provided any payment details, so I just get emails say "order was not placed".

I order ink when I want to, and shop around eg. Amazon, Ebay etc.  I usually get better prices than Epson want to charge.

Thank you Tuvok.

I disabled the option to have ink management for two reasons.
Like you I use very little ink so its expensive; I prefer to order from The Cartridge People. Secondly it requires my printer to be permanently on and connected to the internet. I only switch it on a couple of times a month.

I'm not sure HP printers wll accept non-HP ink; there was some fuss about it a year or so ago?

I'll try and make sense of the little booklet again, I'm no good at all at RTFM. 😉
