What should I do? About 7 years ago, I had to report them to my council who came round and they gave them a warning and told them, "Come on you have lovely neighbours. Respect them". They obeyed, 7 years later, today (Sunday) they're drilling all the render. The council doesn't open until 6pm tonight. What should I do? Seven years ago they even wrote a letter to us to apologise detailing the times of the week when they realised we when work should be done, but they're at it again!

Works by builders or contractors should only be carried out from 8am to 6pm (Monday to Friday) and 8am to 1pm (Saturdays), not on Sundays or bank holidays. If construction work is carried out outside of these hours you can report it as nuisance noise to your council.Despite the sarcastic replies, Treacle has a point.

Whatever day they worked it would disturb you just as much.  If it was very early morning or late at night it would be cause for complaint but if work needs to be done, it needs to be done.  I can't see what difference the day makes.

My council's regulations stipulate that no works to be carried out on a Sunday , Naomi. I thought of all the people on this website that you would know 🤷

Why on earth would I know what your council stipulates?

I'd be sick of the constant noise every seven years too.

Take a few minutes to consider that you're not the only person in the world, it might help but I'm not hopeful.

There are no laws that restrict DIY on your own home.  Are they tradespeople or are they doing it themselves?

I wouldn't have. First I've heard of such a restriction.

You can complain to them, stating the rule, but beyond that, little save for complaining to the council Monday.

It's you that sounds like a nightmare neighbour to me.

They have builders there right now, four of them.

Are they tradespeople?

What council do you come under?

Your council opens at 6pm on a Sunday?

Well if you're determined to complain to the council and the offices are closed there's not a lot you can do about it.  I guess you'll just have to suffer it for today.  If you stop them now, you won't stop them another day.  You may as well let them get on with it. The quicker it's done the quicker they'll be gone.

If they've been good neighbours for the last 7 years I'd just thank my lucky stars.  If the noise bothers you that much maybe think about going out for the day or wearing headphones and listening to music.

I'd swap places with you any time.  You haven't a clue what bad neighbours are really like or this a wind up????

I was fast asleep and they knocked on our door probably to ask our permission! They woke me up with their drilling too at 8am. I'm not even dressed! I'm exhausted from my own week's work. Builders are still there but no building work carrying on for the time being. The council told them 7 years ago that they're wrong but they still persist with their own way 😱

//I can't see what difference the day makes.//

I thought you were going to break out in song there, Naomi 🙂

Put some cotton wool in your ears and go back to bed, Treacle.

Haaa!  You wouldn't like it baz.  You'd be borrowing Treacle's cotton wool!  😂

Have you thought about heading out for a bottomless brunch or a salon visit?

I've seen both mentioned elsewhere as a way of taking your mind off things.

What council do you live in, Treacle?  Some councils have bye laws about building work on Sundays, others don't.

And does your council really open at 6pm today?
