I wouldn't have their job for any money.

Hamstrung by mind-boggling rules and with no backup when trying to maintain discipline along with having to deal with 'challenged' kids who should really be in an institution.

It's ironic that the Education Secretary is urging unions and teachers to 'put kids first...', something the government should try, for a refreshing change.

Douglas..100% agree

More strikes from the teachers ?

I thought they'd banned caning in schools !

Teachers work long hours. It doesn't just start at 9 and end at 3.30 or whenever. Many teachers arrive at school one hour before classes start and do prep work. There are after school activities that are overseen by teachers as well as marking that is done at home. Add to that the travelling time and many teachers are working for 12/13 hours. The schlool holidays is also a myth as teachers are in school after the break-up and they return one week before classes resume, in order to prepare for the start of lessons. Some of these teachers will recruit family members to help with pre-school prep work. Some teachers will buy items for the children out of their own pockets.

There is a world of "teaching" that many people just don't see and are ignorant about. Teaching is very demanding and stressful.

I don't think anyone here is suggesting it's an easy job. 🙄
