png files seem to be far superior to gif files and I want to use some in a website. All browsers seem happy with them, except for Explorer. I have heard that Microsoft do not support them or they do not work very well with Explorer. Is this true? Will Microsoft catch up? Should I use png files?

On the basis that around 80% of people use Microsoft IE, I wouldn't use something that IE doesn't like - if anything I use the reverse - ie things that won't work on Mozilla.

I've never used PNG files in any of the websites I've worked on but it looks like there may be an argument for using them if you want to use alpha transparency. If not, then GIFs would be fine.
