HELP!!! PC gone bonkers!

it's gone weirdo, i have no desktop, just a white background saying %thisdirname% when i go to start- programs it's empty, managed to get on IE by going to find-onthe internet. my virus checker is uptodate so i have no idea whats going on! i have had warkings about disk space but i did a clean up. any ideas! windows came with pc so they won't help me!

and then it opened evry programme and said this! Windows User-interface core component used an uninitialized variable, attempted to access memory or a DLL that has been freed, or encountered some other nonspecific error. any ideas!!!

Sound like when doing your clean up you have removed one or more system components or messed up your registry. How did you go about this clean up?

If you are using Windows ME or XP then you might recover using system restore which is a "go back" utility. If not then Windows has a utility called sfc which will scan for missing or corrupted dlls. Can you get to the command prompt? If so then do this and then type sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /) then press return.

The symptoms point towards an IE problem - specifically the function called web view which allows you to view folders as though they were web pages. If none of this works then there are other things to try. Come back and tell me what has happened first.

If you have problems running sfc as suggested then you need to navigate to the windows/system folder and type sfc (without /scannow) if in the msdos window, or double click sfc.exe if you got there via explorer.

hello! thanks for the advice. unfortunately i can only go to things on my tool bar bit (near the time) and they disappear now and then (like my e-mail, i was in middle of trying to save my address book and e-mails onto cd when it disappeared! I cleaned up by saying ok when PC asked me to do a disk clean up as it had run out of space and i got one of those blue screen errors! got on ie through messenger, which sitll works. if i go to start it goes bonkers! think i will have to restore or something, but i am unable to save my things. i even tried safe mode, but that crashed! my pc has been playing up recently anyway!

also strange thing is my font is weird, all the websites have a different font now!

Crashed on safe mode? You really have problems.

Can you boot to Dos rather than safe mode?If so then navigate to the windows/system directory and type sfc /scannow. If this doesn't work try sfc /purgecache.
