What are the risks of prosecution in the UK using limewire to share music files - how can the risk be minimised?

the risks are minimal.

you are just one sharer amongst millions.the prosecutors are mainly after the major offenders who upload big files thru bit torrent nowadays.

The trick is to not share any of your files (they are not yours to share), if you are not sharing out music / films then you are not at risk. Turn off the 'share' option in preferences.

Even if you are one of those inconsiderate so-and-sos who expects other people to take the risk of letting them download music, but is unwilling to show others the same courtesy, you are still downloading copyrighted material that you do not have permission to download.

�100,00 per song. thats ridiculous. i would offer them the �2.99 that i would have paid for the cd single. if they didnt want that they could sue me for the millions of pounds that i dont have. ps. use an anonymous proxy. pps. thats what i miss the most about winmx. the way that you can easily see and cancel people who dont share files. selfish

boobesque: Last I heard, there were ways around the shutdown of WinMX. Try http://www.slyck.com/winmx.php for details. I personally never found it useful for my needs - I would get plenty of folk getting stuff from my shares (of non-copyrighted stuff, of course!) but I hardly ever got anything in return :o( .

the new winmx is a bit crap though. its not as simple to use as the old winmx so not as many people are using it. this means in turn that not as many people are sharing files.

How would i use an anonymous proxy?

do a google search for anonymous proxy. you need to add the proxy settings into limewires settings. you may experience a speed difference as the a proxy works by you connecting to the proxy which connects to limewire.
