Look for an option to import or insert image. There is a way as that's what InDesign does!!!

Lynda.com offers excellent tutorials via the internet or on a CD-Rom. Have a look here
http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modListing.asp?pid=27 - but they aren't free (only some preview movies)

Or you can try here

Or if you prefer printed materials

A search on Google for "Learn InDesign"

oops... pressed submit before I finished my answer!!

A search on Google for "Learn InDesign" should give you all the results you need!

You can not OPEN images in InDesign but you can PLACE (insert) them into an InDesign document. What happens then is InDesign creates links to images so that you can edit the images with image-editing software of your choice while InDesign will simply display them as part of the document. As for learning, I found it easiest to learn by doing. I got a few professionally-designed templates and poked about to see how they are made.
Have a look here: http://www.bestindesigntemplates.com: quite a few templates to get you started.
