2 Ethernet Cables

Hi, I have broadband which is connected from the PC to the router by an ethernet cable. I also have a Panasonic scanner which has to be connected to my PC by an ethernet cable. At the moment if I want to scan anything I have to unplug the broadband and plug in the scanner cable. My question is - does anyone know of an adapter that would allow both cables to be connected to my PC? I understand that I won't be able to connect to the broadband and scan at the same time but that isn't a problem. Any suggestions??

You could use a network hub / switch.

Are you sure that this is ethernet? It's unusual for a scanner to connect via an ethernet cable. What does the plug look like? Ethernet looks similar to a telephone plug. Most scanners connect via USB.

i agree with rojash--in yrs of working with computers i have never encountered a scanner on a home system being connected by ethernet--in my home network the scanner can be accessed by any of my pc's but it is still connected to my main pc by usb

The PC and scanner are in my small office. I bought the printer/fax/scanner and assumed that the printer and the scanner would connect via USB. I had no problems with the printer but couldn't get the scanner to work. Phoned the Panasonic dealer and they informed me that the printer/fax/scanner was designed to be included in a network - hence the ethernet cable which is exactly the same as my broadband cable. Any more thoughts?

then as kerplunk says, you need a switch or something.

however, may work with your router too perhaps! check the manual it came with, to see if it says anything about that.

If the broadband router has more than one ethernet socket on it then just plug the scanner into that and it will act like a switch. Otherwise buy a small ethernet hub which is the cheapest solution, for only two items you wont need the extra expense of a ethernet switch.
