I would suggest (for a reason I cant explain) pulling the monitor plug out of your pc during this time. Before you plug your computer back into the mains make sure you have ur monitor plugged into the pc.
I saw this happen to a mate one time, so its worth letting you know about it. Apparently the key thing was unplugging the pc from the wall.
It's a bonkers fault, but it could be a problem with your graphics card or XP itself. Try doing a repair with your XP disc, it might clear it because this has happened to me and it worked. If it's not that, try and borrow a card from another machine, making sure that the card is compatible with your Motherboard and BIOS version, pop it in and see what happens, I'd try the card first before doing the repair. The reason why your monitor is going into low power standby is because it isn't recieving video output from the base unit, the software problem could be to do with the energy compliance settings going corrupt and permanently cutting the video signal. Give it a try, you won't permanently screw it up if you are careful!
I will try and do a repair if it stays on long enough for me to start the disk up. Regarding your second paragraph it is far too technical for me, i am at a lost. Sorry to sound silly. You then say about trying the card first? Do not know what card or where i can obtain one from. Thanks for your help tho.
It seems that your inverter board is causing the problem. Have a look at this tutorial and I'm sure it will help you repair your LCD screen.
