the updates were meant to have happened end of march.if you visit bt.com you may see that your has already been upgraded but the upgrades run thru until autumn.

my exchange(i think) has already been done as before i was borderline for 2 megs whereas now it says i can receive up to 4meg.

thanks Mattk, I have tried that but no luck, just have to keep searching. cheers

no problem.

bear in mind that although an exchange is 8meg it doesnt necessarily follow that you can receive this speed if you are are far away from your exchange like me.

I think that BT have pretty much upgraded them all by now.

Unfortunately, if your an exisiting BT Broadband customer you will not automatically get the new speed upgrades. If you wish to proceed then go here -

http://www.bt.com/broadband/bb_info.jsp

Use the upgrade button under the option that you want - be aware however that you are agreeing to a new 12 month contract to obtain the new speed upgrade !

Thanks for that khana, my ISP is Wanadoo and they tell me my line will only take upto 2mb, which I have but it seems to take them ages to get BT to upgrade exchanges,

Thanks again

Sorry, I have nothing to say - I am just responding so it goes in my "answers" pot, so I can access that upgrade link when I have time. Ta for that.
As part of BT's 21CN program, all exchanges are pretty much capable of this speed now

hawkeye - I am leaving wanadoo as i have found their customer service to be atrocious.their website tells me that i can only receive a 1meg connection but i am moving to a supplier who says that i can receive up to 4meg,which i have confirmed on bt's website.

i recommend you leave ! visit adsl guide and compare isp's for further help.

Try this one ;

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/

and use the availability checker on the left hand side.

or even the Availability Checker ! which shows ADSL max availability.

http://www.bt.com/broadband/

Enter your phone number and it'll say first whether your exchange is ADSL enabled. Then it says whether it is ADSL Max enabled which is the new 8Mb service.
