Hi my sister-in-law has just bought a new PC today. She is trying to set it up and cannot find the product key that it is asking for. I live 25 miles away so can not get there to help. Does any one know where she can find this key? She has looked through all the packaging and cant see to find one also this is her first brand new PC. I did not have to put one in when I purchased mine as window's was already installed. she is trying to install windows xp.

If it is the Windows product key - it will be on the case of the recovery disk that came with the pc or at the back of the pc itself.

It is a long series of numbers on a silvery stick on label.

I'd get her to contact whoever she bought it from. Most suppliers will have already put the OS on. If not, the key is normally on a holographic sticker in the packaging for the Windows book/CD.

Also ask her to check the case of the PC for a holographic sticker that the manufacturer should have stuck on it. The key is printed on it.
I like Ethel can confirm that it will almost certainly be on one of the disk covers but it may be on the reverse of the cover and thus not obvious. It is possible that it could be on the box!!!
