Blocked emails

Why every so often do I get an email sent me which blocks it up? ie server stops responding. The last one blocked for over 12 hours & I had to clear by viewing my emails via my servers website. Incidently, it was an answerbank email which caused the latest problem,

Since your question has sat unanswered for so long, I chip in with not much of a reply but the best thought I can offer. The phenomenon you describe appears to suggest your server thinks you are logged onto it although you are not - rather like getting an engaged tone on your phone instead of a dialling tone. If I were you, I would go to your e-mail server's website (assuming they have one - this may or may not be your ISP also although I have a separate ISP from e-mail service provider because I gave up on the previous ISP but kept the e-mail address) and use their Contact Us facility to get advice because this may be a form of breakdown on their side.
