Old laptop

I have a 3 year old laptop which is making a terrible sound. I think the fan needs cleaning or replacing. Is it safe to open up the fan compartment if I leave it to run out of power for a few days? I don't want to be electrocuted but its just not worth taking it to be looked at by a professional ;(

Generally, laptops have a removable battery.

However, they can be tricky to take apart, best get a professional to look at it.
