Silent calls to me on my mobile.

Recently I've been getting phones calls from an 0870 number on my mobile phone. I have looked up the number on the internet and it does not say to whom it belongs to.

No-one knows my number and so I have no idea how they have got it. I have no idea who they are and what they want because as soon as I answer the phone call after about 6 seconds the person hangs up.

What can I do (rights wise) to stop this anonymous person from ringing my number and not answering ?

I am now going to the discussion board on that website to request the number.

I don't know whether to post the 0870 number on here or just leave it as 0870 (for privacy reasons)

You are probably being called from a call centre which has a computer which dials a number of phones simultaneously. If the operator gets a response, they go to that call and speak, the remainder of answered calls are cut off by the computer after a few seconds, hence the 'silent treatrment.

I got a series of calls from an 0161 number, the same effect, and eventually I was connected to someone who wanted to "make an appointment with me to discuss my call charges plan ...." When I asked how they got my number, they rang off, but haven't called back.

The chances are some technology scans the airwaves and picks up your mumber when you use it to ust about anyone, and batches of numbers are passed on to 'cold calling' companies like the one i had.

Frustrating, but don't let it bother you - it's the price we pay for living in the digital age.
